Knowing whether you are ready or not should be in the background.
There is a lot of talk about playing the sport you like the most while you study and obtain your university degree. What little is talked about is everything that comes with traveling to a new country and starting a new life. Most players traveling for the first time are between 18 and 21 years old after graduating high school. When you arrive in the United States, not only does the language change, but also your friends, the food, your house, your bed, and your coach.
Knowing whether you are ready or not should be in the background. If you are clear about your objective and priority, even if the surrounding circumstances affect you, you will have the necessary foundations to overcome the different situations that arise. Only some things are going to be good and pretty. You're going to have bad days, you're going to have bad workouts, sometimes you're not going to like the cafeteria food, you're going to miss your family and your friends. In those moments, you have to remember two things.
1. Even if you were in your country and at home, you would not have perfect moments. There will always be days with obstacles
2. Everything happens for a reason. It is your decision that you get the most out of each situation.
I and everyone else can only tell you if you are prepared to travel to the United States and compete at the university level. What I can tell you is that it is an experience in which you will:
- To mature
- Be independent
- Improve your relationships
- Know yourself
- Overcome obstacles
- Learn or perfect English
- Get your university degree
- Create lifelong friendships.
